The finale for Orientation 2007 was the Temasek Regatta held on the evening of 20 April 2007 at the Bedok Reservoir. The event was a successful culmination of all the great bonding moments that had taken place during the three-day Orientation programme, not just amongst the freshmen, but amongst the staff and students, including junior and senior students, who had enthusiastically joined in the fun as well. Noisy cheers and singing could be heard continuously throughout the event as spectators rooted loudly for their favourite teams.
One of the key highlights of the Regatta was no doubt the TP Staff Race, where teams made up of staff members pitted their rowing prowess on the waters of the Bedok Reservoir. The team of 20 from the Info Tech School consisting of both senior and new staff, including 2 managers, did the school proud by coming in second place.
“Despite managing only half an hour’s practice prior to the race, we managed to synchronize our movements and had good coordination,” said team leader, Mr Simon Ngeow. Simon was also proud of the 3 female staff members who volunteered without any hesitation to join the crew. Of his female crew members, Simon had this to say, “They showed very high levels of energy during the race!”
When asked about their experience, Roselind Nah said that it was a fun time for staff to come together and work cooperatively together. “It was a great experience and a memorable moment. We shared laughter, jokes and of course, the IT cheer .. “IT oei, oei” , “IT oei, oei!” Fellow female rower Jean Looi echoed the same sentiments when she said, “It was really fun and exciting to work as a team with our fellow colleagues, knowing that we would do our best for the event.” Natasha Low agreed that the team “demonstrated positive attitude, teamwork and humour!” All were very encouraged by the loud cheering. “It really motivated us to hear fellow colleagues and students cheering for us!” And all had this to say, “We will not hesitate to join again next year!”
Simon added, “Though we were exhausted after the race, we enjoyed rowing as one team and look forward to taking part in the same event next year.”
With such enthusiasm and good coordination, it looks like plain sailing for the team next year!
