This course looks at IP and its associated protocols in terms of the technology as well as how to apply it to real-life applications. In addition, many of the issues that need to be addressed when using and considering IP will be discussed.
Course Objectives
On completion of this subject, participants should be able to:
- Identify the components of an IP network
- Design an IP address scheme for a network
- Identify the protocols that support IP (ARP, Default Gateway, RARP, ICMP, BOOTP, DHCP, DNS)
- Interpret an IP routing table
- Differentiate the TCP and UDP protocols
- Identify the common Application Layer protocols
- Identify the components of IP v6
- Consider security issues of an IP network
Who Should Attend
This course is aimed at individuals who wish to develop an understanding of the IP technology. It will be beneficial for network technicians who are involved in supporting or implementing IP networks.

Trainers
Mr. John Leong
Mr. John Leong holds a Master Degree (Communication Software) from University of Essex. He is a lecturer for the Diploma in Internet Computing course in Temasek IT School, Temasek Polytechnic. He is a CISCO Certified Academy Instructor for the CISCO Regional Academy at Temasek Polytechnic. He is also the course coordinator for the Specialist Diploma in Enterprise Networking course which prepares students for the CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Certification. Mr. Leong is a Microsoft Certified System Engineer (Windows 2000 version) and has been teaching in Temasek IT School for almost 7 years. He has also taught programming subjects such as Dynamic Data Application Development, Internet Application Development, MS Visual Basic and Assembly Language Programming. He was involved in application development prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic.
Mr. Seah Bee Huat
Mr. Seah Bee Huat teaches in the Diploma in Internet Computing, specializing in the area of Networking and Computer Systems. He has many years' experience teaching both full-time students and working professionals.
Prior to joining Temasek Polytechnic, Bee Huat was a technical research staff at the DSO National Laboratories. He has worked on several research and development projects, supporting users from the various services in MINDEF, as well as in collaboration with academic institution such as NUS. These projects include areas such as communication systems, networking, digital signal processing and low bit-rate voice encoding.
