Building on TP’s adoption of the Down Syndrome Association (DSA) as its charity organization to mark TP’s 15th Anniversary, InfoTech School Studies club invited DSA members and their siblings to participate in a games day event held on 26 February 2005. This event was part of a series of events created to provide opportunities for InfoTech students to participate in charitable events and ignite a lifelong interest in volunteering.
In all, 21 participants, aged between 5 to 13 years, excitedly took part in games such as Hula Hoop and Telematch, and danced animatedly to the beat of the Chicky Dance. The highlight of the event was the Lucky Draw, where all DSA Members went home with a prize.
It was a heartwarming and unforgettable experience for the volunteers:
"I found out more about the children’s’ personalities by interacting with them." Jasmine Leong Yin Har, Diploma in Information Management, Year 1
“I had fun! I learned how to communicate with Down Syndrome kids. Most importantly, I put a smile on their faces. That made my day!" Terence Mao Shi Xian, Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing, Year 3
“It is important for everyone to play a part in providing care and concern for kids with Down Syndrome.” Desmond Sim Chin Meng, Diploma in Internet Computing, Year 2
"It was memorable spending my day and sharing my joy with the kids." See Pin Quan Elvin, Diploma in Information Technology, Year 2
As the event came to a close, most of the DSA children bid a reluctant farewell to the InfoTech School volunteers.
