To launch the President's Challenge 2007, the People's Association has been working with its five Community Development Councils, Grassroots Organizations and LEGO Education (South & East Asia) to hold a series of community projects. The People’s Association has been championing the President’s Challenge since the year 2000 and has had very good support for the event from Singaporeans.
The aim of the event is to raise finds for charitable organisations. Members of the public can play a part in the fundraising effort by donating $2 for a LEGO piece. Each donation will go towards the beneficiaries identified for the President’s Challenge 2007. The $2 LEGO piece will be one of approximately 150,000 pieces used to construct a 2.54m by 3.81m President’s Challenge 2007 digital logo. The digital logo will be unveiled on Sunday, 2 September 2007 by President S R Nathan.
Temasek Info Tech School was approached to work on this digital animation and so students and staff from the Diploma in Internet and Multimedia Development spent the last few weeks on this project.
The digital logo will be open for viewing on the PA Website soon. Members of the public can keep track of the formation of the logo and in this way get a sense of the amount of donations being received.
Diploma in Internet and Multimedia lecturer, Jean Looi and two Junior students, Shawn Loh and Derrick Teo, worked on the project from mid May to July 07.
The team had this to say about their experience: ‘It has been a very meaningful project to work on and we can’t wait for 2 September 2007 when the full logo will be unveiled.’
Mr Joe Sim, Assistant Manager of the People’s Association Youth Movement was very pleased with the work and commended the project team on the fast pace at which they worked on the project.
