Nicholas Cheong, a student from the Diploma in Internet and Multimedia Development, won the bronze prize for a clip he created to educate the public on Going the Extra Mile for Service (GEMS). An annual competition, organised by Republic Polytechnic, the theme for the ActionScript Awards 2006 was “The Art of Service”.

After some brainstorming sessions with his coach Mr Rick Toh, Nicholas created a clip titled: “Kenji goes to GEMS Academy”. The clip tells a story of an imaginary character named Kenji going to the Academy to learn about GEMS. Nicholas spent many nights drawing and animating the different scenes. He also developed 4 different games to allow users to learn about GEMS.

Mr Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, was guest-of-honour at the prize presentation-cum-exhibition on 19 April 2007. Nicholas had the opportunity to explain his entry to both the Minister and Deputy Principal, Edmund Khoo, during the exhibition.
