Our team of students from the Diploma in Information Technology - Team MamaGaia, comprising of Ryan Chia Xue Yi, Alicia Tay Hui Qin, Koh Yang Lin and Phyo Myat Thu - emerged champions at the Imagine Cup 2008 competition in Singapore. The results had been announced on 26 Jun 08.
The team left for Paris on 2 July to compete against 59 other teams in the World Finals that were held from 4-7 July 2008 ! After the 1st round of competitions in Paris, Team MamaGaia emerged among the top 12 semi-finalists ! Though they did not make it to the list of top 6 teams on 7 July, the team has done exceedingly well and learnt much from the experience.
CoralTellus, the team’s winning solution in the Software Design category, seeks to revive dying corals and create a sustainable environment for them.
Reflecting on their experience, the team had this to say:
“We know that this has been our greatest personal achievement and learning experience so far. We now view life from a larger perspective and are better at managing our time. We are thankful for the support of our lecturers and our friends and we appreciate the people who saw the potential in us and gave us the opportunity to shine, helping us along the way. We are proud to have represented TP and Singapore on the world stage !”
