The Yahoo! Mobile Developer Awards competition challenged tertiary level students to create mobile widgets (mini applications for mobile phones) running on Yahoo!’s mobile platform software Yahoo! Go.

Competitors were given one month to develop widgets for one of four companies: DBS Bank, Kellogg’s Asia Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Airlines, and UEEEU.com. Each of these sponsors selected the winning widget developed for their brand.

Senior students Wong Jing Xuan and Suhaimi Bin Bohari from the Diploma in Mobile & Wireless Computing were picked by Kellogg’s Asia Sdn Bhd as the top developers for the widgets they created for the company. The application integrated Web 2.0 technologies that enable people on the go to track information on useful diets, access information on exercise programmes, incorporated chat features, easy to use reminder features and many more.

Thrilled about their success, Jing Xuan and Suhaimi are exploring how their application can be further enhanced.
