On 30 Mar 2009, five creative seniors from the Diploma in Game & Entertainment Technology, learnt that their entry won one of the seed prizes for the top five proposals in a competition organised by the National Heritage Board (NHB).
Begum Farah Bte Mohd Farid, Ling Pei Fen, Ho Mei Yi, Siti Haryani Binti Jumari and Kevin Tan Kah Hao had submitted their game for Mission Darkstar – a competition to help the general public grow more familiar with Singapore’s historical heritage. Using their seed prize of $4,000, the students now have to develop their game for the second leg of the competition which ends in September 2009.
Grounding their storyline on the idea of time-travel, the team conceived a flash gamein the adventure-RPG (Role-Playing Game) genre. The game comprises ten levels, each featuring a different period in Singapore history, and involves interaction with various characters and objects. At each level, the player has to complete a series of mini-games which contain elements of history or heritage. To prolong their game-play, players could collect random items along the way with differing values. The team promises that their game, which they have named “Back in Time”, would be very intricately detailed, allowing players to experience different game-play.
Way to go team – we’re looking forward to moving ‘Back in Time’ !!
