“39 students, 2 lecturers, 1 amazing trip.” This was how one student summed up a study trip to London and Paris organised by the Diploma in Financial Business Informatics (FB) from 9-19 April 2012.
The FBI students visited the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (CISI) where they were given a thought provoking hands-on session on applying ethics in the finance industry.
The students also visited the London Metal Exchange (LME) which proved to be an eye-opener. Besides witnessing how traders traded “live” for the very first time, students also got a glimpse of what life was like as a Pit Trader.
A visit to Thomson Reuters in London and the Bank of England gave students a chance to witness how business tools were developed and learn more about the application of economics in the finance and business industry.
A tour to Oxford University was also on the itinerary. Students got a feel of what life would be like studying at Oxford University, and visited the dining hall where the movie Harry Potter was filmed.
The study trip would not be complete without visiting famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Despite having to endure a long wait, the students climbed 700 steps to see the breath-taking view of Paris from the top the Eiffel Tower. They were also brought to the Louvre Museum where they gained a greater appreciation for art. Other places that students visited were the Notre Dame Cathedral, Arc de Triomphe, Champ Elysees, and Euro Disney.
Summing up the trip, this was what one of the students had to say - “This was indeed one of the best school trips I’ve experienced. There were interesting places to visit, many things to do and learn, and great friends to be with on the trip. I would definitely jump at the chance to go on this trip again.”
