The project was developed by Chin Ming Wei Alvin, Diwanand Davar, Jonah Victor Dakis Dela Cruz and Loke Lup Peng from the Diploma in Information Technology.
The team developed an Interactive Adaptive Encyclopaedia which is able to match learning resources to an individual’s learning style. Spiral Star is able to discern the key learning style of an individual, be it visual, auditory or tactile, and retrieve quality resources that match the learner’s key learning style.
Not only that, it is able to adapt to the user’s changing educational levels. Thus, as the user moves on to higher levels, the system is able to retrieve materials that provide correspondingly more in-depth information on the searched topic.
Spiral Star also allows the user to network with other learners in similar fields of interest. The user is able to communicate, clarify doubts and share resources and viewpoints with others in the online learning community.
Having such an avenue for sharing and discussion is in line with the Web 2.0 trend of collaboration and sharing among users. Thus, Spiral Star holds special appeal for digital natives who spend many hours of their time on the Internet, participating in online communities.
