2005 - NDP2005 Website

The NDP2005 journey for the IT School began in November 2004. Three teams were quickly set up - one to produce the website design, one for the backend data programming, and one for the mobile and wireless applications. The room they were assigned was transformed into a different world.

Website Design Team from Diploma in Internet Computing

The task was to design a website which could encapsulate the themes and spirit of the National Day Parade. Distinctly celebratory, the colours, shapes and elements were to reflect our dynamic, resilient and diverse people.

Given the chance to express their creativity, students Watt Xiu Wei, Louis Pan, Kenneth Yip, Wong Xiu Xian, Toh Pei Xiang, Shina Tan and Candy Zheng eagerly accepted the challenge. The team worked tirelessly through many weekends on new concepts and prototypes to present to the NDP organizing committee.

In the end, Xiu Wei produced the design which captured the hearts of the organizing committee. It was a proud moment when she was featured during the launch of the NDP2005 website at a press conference on 6 April 2005.

Mobile Team from Diploma in Mobile & Wireless Computing

Wilson Tan Sung Wen and Cai WenJie from the Mobile & Wireless Computing (MWC) diploma were tasked with handling the ‘mobile' aspect of the site. As with any 'real-world' software development engagement, requirements and job scope were frustratingly fuzzy at first. But as these slowly materialized over the initial few weeks, the students were able to set about their assigned tasks. Working together with the backend development team, they delivered on their tasks commendably with minimal supervision.

Besides the valuable real-world project experience, what they have gained is the pride in seeing the fruit of their labours being used by anyone, anywhere with a mobile phone. Try it! Point your mobile phone browsers to: http://ndp.org.sg/wap.

Backend Development Team from Diploma in Information Technology

The team comprised of Yang Qing Wei, Albin Yeo. Former student, Mathew Ng also assisted. They handle the registration and login function, NDP journal (Blogging system) and the Multimedia Archival and Retrieval system. The team also performed the integration and deployment of the various sub-systems with the mobile application and web design.
