Students of the Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing represented Temasek Polytechnic at the recent Technology Fair 2005 held at the Suntec City Convention Centre on 24 March 2005. Organised by Spring Singapore and A*STAR, the Technology Fair is part of ongoing efforts to create greater awareness and adoption of technology among local enterprises.
Dr Lim Wie Ming, Course Manager of the Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing, delivered a talk on Embracing and Enabling People-Centred and Pro-active Mobile and Wireless Systems. Several Mobile and Wireless Computing projects were showcased at the fair, drawing interest from organisations and individuals wanting to discuss collaborations with the polytechnic.
One of the projects which drew interest was Sentosa X3, an intelligent tourist system that provides personalized and interesting tour experiences for visitors to Sentosa. The concept and technologies of the system are extensible and scalable and can be applied to other areas like education, simulation, entertainment, and commercial application.
This project won the 1st runner up prize in the Consumer category of the Splash Awards – Wireless Jam 2005. It also received a special prize – the Microsoft Award - at the same competition.
