Voon Kai Ting is from the pioneer batch of the Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing. Selected for the Overseas Student Internship Programme, Kai Ting headed for the University of Queensland in December 2004.
Settling in was not easy at first. She had never traveled alone before and was challenged to step out of her comfort zone. However, Kai Ting described the experience as fabulous and enriching – academically, culturally and socially.
At the University of Queensland she worked on a project to build a Context-aware Reminder Application which sends calendar reminders to users based on their current context and preferences. The application was to be built on the University of Queensland’s context management infrastructure system. It was programmed using Java.
“Looking back at my experience in Temasek Polytechnic I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given and in particular I appreciate the Problem-based Learning approach because it developed in me a certain confidence in facing challenges.”
Kai Ting will be graduating this semester and plans to pursue a degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
