2005 - Innovative, Creative, Enterprising Technology at the IT Project Show 2005

Dr. Leong Mun Kiew, Lead Scientist, Institute for Infocomm Research, was Guest-of-Honour at the IT Project Show held on 12 April 2005. The theme for this year was ICE-T!

Our theme has succinctly captured the new directions which InfoTech School is taking to encourage its students to innovate and combine technical competence with creative ideas to produce products and services that will contribute to society,’ said Mr. Tan Dek Yam, Director of InfoTech School in his opening address.

The following two are among the top projects which were presented at the event:

J3 Roving Eye: This project was developed by Ng Wee Hua; Toh Teng Hui and Yeo Chai Heng, final year students of the Diploma in Internet Computing.

The J3 Roving Eye is a surveillance concept that uses intelligent equipment mounted with cameras. It allows the user to control the equipment via a notebook, workstation, PDA or mobile phone. It also provides a safe and efficient automated way to patrol premises in order to monitor the environment and ensure security.

This project won top prize in the recent Splash Awards – Wireless Jam 2005 Competition in the Enterprise category for Institutes of High Learning. The team also won the Radixs Most Outstanding Team Award in the same competition.

Knoc Knoc! This project was developed by Poh Wen Hao, Ian, Ong Biling, Jon-Erik Seah Sida, Ong Yu Wen, Tan Ze Chuan and Tay Yi Wen Evan Cuthbert, final year students of the Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing.

Knoc Knoc! Is an intelligent intercom system which allows for voice and video communication. As a flexible system, it can be deployed in residential, industrial and commercial environments. One key feature is that it allows the user to record the voice and video messages of his guests when he is away, and retrieve these on his PDA or mobile phone. The system also acts as a surveillance system which heightens security as the user is able to see and interact with his visitors before allowing them entry.

This project won the 2nd runner-up prize in the Consumer category of the Splash Awards – Wireless Jam 2005
